Owing to their bad eating habits two out of three adults are either overweight or obese and on the other hand, a lot of people are malnourished and underweight. To keep up with the latest trends, people end up eating much more or very less than what their body requires. A lot of people who love eating junk food, binge eat on anything which they like without realizing the consequences. On the other hand, some consume far too little to get a perfect shaped body, little do they know that these bad eating habits are making them weak and undernourished from inside.

Breaking Bad Eating Habits

Why is this an important issue?

Wholesome nourishment is very critical for a healthy body. At least three proper meals a day with lots of nutritious food products including fruits, vegetables, and whole grains is the basic requirement of your body.

By following the latest fad diets and restrictive eating methods you will be exposing yourself to unhealthy eating patterns that are not only destructive to your body but also mentally exhausting and a complete waste of time and energy. If you’re one of the people in the above categories, it is suggested that you should switch to healthy eating habits as soon as possible.

The changes you need to make.

Once you have made up your mind to change your bad eating habits to those which are nourishing and healthy, following the pointers below will give you a good chance of success.

Breaking Bad Eating Habits

Clean Your Kitchen(of the unhealthy food): Having only the right kinds of food in the kitchen is the right way to start. Do a kitchen purge and get rid of all the food products laden with processed sugars, fats, added flavors, and all other kinds of impurities and replace them with healthy nutritious foods made of whole-grains, fruits, and vegetables. Try to cut out any and all foods that come out of a box.

Have Three Balanced Meals(at least):  Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner with a couple of snack breaks and 7-8 glasses of water in a day is what we call ‘a healthy diet’. Our ancestors were following that for a reason, and so should you. Any diet that is overly restrictive in nature causes an imbalance of nutrients in the body and should be avoided like a plague.

Don’t Be Emotional(when eating): Being Emotional when eating puts you at risk of making poor food choices and results in either overeating or undereating. Look at food as fuel, not therapy. Try not to eat when you are emotional or have access to some healthy snacks like your favorite fruit.

Junk The Junk(not the healthy):  Good food should make you happy. Abstaining yourself from eating your favorite foods is stressful, and you may end up making too many healthy choices to sustain in the long run. Breaking up with your bad food habits don’t really mean breaking up with your favorite junk foods, you just have to limit the amount of those unhealthy foods and turn them into healthy, tasty options. For instance, make your own healthy pizza with a thin-crust whole-grain base and healthy veggies, and lots of healthy cheese. Try this recipe here.

Beware(Of your triggers): Studies have shown that processed foods are addictive. Sugar, in particular, is 8 times as addictive as cocaine. These foods are usually unhealthy but so delectable that you can’t stop yourself from asking for one more. It’s easy to ask you to take charge and avoid these foods, but you WILL fail. The key here is to rather fail small than to go the whole nine yards. If you really like to have a pizza, give yourself the liberty to enjoy that small slice without remorse, rather than binging on the whole pizza. You are human after all.

In Conclusion.

Let’s face it. It is going to be a long road. And it should be because to reap the benefits of wholesome and balanced eating habits, they have to be in for the long haul. Make changes that you can live with, rather than depending on the latest diets which put you back on the same gain-lose path and probably doing you more harm than good.
