Part 1

Getting Started.

Let’s face the fact, not all of us are comfortable at the neighbourhood gym.

While a few may not like the crowded environment, others can be plainly intimidated by the hunks grunting under a 50 kg weight.

Not to say unsolicited fitness advice being thrown your way by someone who’s been training since say last 10 years.

In my personal opinion, none of us needs a gym to be fit, unless chiseling out a bollywood physique is your idea of fitness, you can get totally fit in the realm of your home. I personally haven’t been to a gym since say last 5 years and not doing too badly either at 63 kgs bodyweight and a 30 inches waist for my 5’7” frame.

But if the idea of a home workout doesn’t excite you, you are in for a shock!

When executed correctly, using just your bodyweight and minimal equipment can give you a run for your money.

So, whether the gym isn’t your thing or you’re short on time, clear out space in the living room and prepare to get fit.

However following are a few considerations you need to look at.

The Pros and The Cons

And to help you make your final decision, we’ve addressed some of the major pros and cons of working out at home:

Pro: No Excuses to Skip a Workout

If working out at home, you can fit in a workout at any time, at any hour without having to schedule a time to pack up and commute to the local gym. Your home gym is always open!

Con: Getting Motivated Can Be More Difficult

When you’re working out at home, it can be more difficult to flip that motivation switch to put in a hard workout if you’re not feeling it that day.

When it comes to motivation, the gym generally wins out.

Pro: Working Out at Home can be Less Expensive

Gym memberships and fitness classes are expensive.

By working out at home, you’re not paying those monthly fees and shelling out money for all the little extras like transportation and fitness gear.

Con: You Don’t Have Access to a Range of Equipment

Paying for a gym membership means you have access to a range of health fitness equipment, classes, and motivation that you wouldn’t have at home. This gives you tons of options, especially if you’re someone who needs to keep your workout routine fresh to keep up your motivation.

Pro: You Have More Privacy

Admit it: You’ve sometimes felt just a little silly when trying a new workout routine or move. And this can prove a daunting task, doing that in front of a crowd in a gym.

By working out at home, you can put on your favorite music – as loud as you want! – and do your thing, whether that’s lifting weights, running, or following along with a filmed routine. No one’s there to see when you trip or miss a move.

Con: You’re Less Social

Gyms are great places to meet like-minded people, and nothing can get you motivated quite like the pumping music and camaraderie of a group fitness class.

Seeing others working hard, struggling in the same ways that you are, can be the motivation you need to push just that much harder, giving you a great workout.

Top 8 Nutrition Myths To Avoid!

Setting Up The Ideal Environment:

Select an area that is airy and receives sunlight for at least some part of the day. Make sure there are no cables running through your area of workout.

Select an area where you are most unlikely to be disturbed for at least an hour. Other family members should be made aware of this and better still, they should be made a part of your exercise routine.

If music is your driving force, set up a small(or big if you want) music system to play your favorite numbers and to keep you going.

We all have different reasons to exercise. Our journeys are all unique, and many of us are at different stages of our training. Finding what keeps you motivated is the key to unlocking a consistent home exercise routine, making your daily workouts a staple, non-negotiable part of your day.

Setting goals can be a great way to stay motivated while tracking progress and achievements along the way.

Besides setting goals, external factors can also play a huge part in motivating us to get off the sofa and push a little bit further for each session.
