With the skyrocketing Gym Membership Fees, times of pandemics like Corona around every corner, and the time wasted in commuting in the city traffic plus the feeling of intimidation which comes from working out with some hardcore enthusiasts around, it may be the time to consider creating your very own personal gym at home.
Before you do, though, a word of caution: plenty like you have suffered the fate of being seduced into purchasing overly expensive and faddish gym equipment which lie unused and dusty in your garage or balcony or being used as a very expensive clothes stand!
At FITrebel we are going to navigate you through the essential equipment for a home gym, but before we go in that direction, we want you to ask yourself this question.
Will a Home Gym work for me?
Working out at home can be convenient and time-saving but at the same time requires some level of discipline and motivation and if you don’t have a workout partner it can be a solitary activity and not everyone is cut out for that. So if the answer is still yes, read on…
A Decent Pair Of Workout Shoes:
Having been working out from the last two decades or so, I couldn’t over-emphasis on the effect of a good pair of workout shoes on your workout. A good workout shoe should provide you with ample cushioning and foot roll-over protection at the least. Try to save some money on these and nothing else that you do will be fun or even effective. If there is only one gym equipment that I could spend my money on, it would be on a good pair of workout shoes. Below are my personal favorites-

Yoga Mat:

Resistance Bands:
Resistance bands are great because they’re lightweight, inexpensive, and don’t take a lot of room to store. They add an extra challenge to lower-body exercises, in particular.
Set of Adjustable Dumbbells:
Adjustable dumbbells refer to a single pair dumbbells, whose weight can be adjusted as needed to be heavier or lighter so that you have a range of weights. The compact, versatile weights allow you to quickly change the load you’re lifting with, giving you a range of options. And when you’re done working out, adjustable dumbbells can fit into a corner.
Exercise Bench:
To make the most of your dumbbell sets, you’ll need a bench. I’d opt for one designed for home use, as they tend to take up less space and can be moved easily. Always go for a bench that has incline and decline functionality: you may not use these often, but if you decide to go for a split strength-building style training phase it’ll come in handy.

Jump Rope:
A good jump rope is one of the best investments you can make in your fitness because it is an extremely effective form of cardiorespiratory exercise and doesn’t require much more than a little space, a timer, and some creativity. a jump rope is a fun throwback way to get your heart rate up—and fast. Stability Ball aka Swiss Ball:
While stability balls aren’t exactly compact gym equipment, they’re a great bonus (especially if you like doing at-home Pilates or yoga). They’re also an excellent way to work your abs since they challenge your stability.
Treadmill:
Do you wish to exercise by running in the comfort of your own space? Walking and running are ideal ways of getting fit, maintaining your physical fitness level, slimming your figure, and improving your cardiovascular capabilities. A treadmill means that you can train at home no matter the weather and easily make sport a part of your daily routine. It lets you adapt your workout to your goals and takes your fitness into account for increased comfort and effectiveness. A good one is expensive though!

Multi-Gym:
A multi-gym is basically a bunch of gym machines combined into one functional machine. These machines are popular in home and hotel gyms. The upside to these machines is that they give you the ability to do many different exercises for the whole body in one small location. Even, you don’t need to buy different exercise tools separately, as it allows you to do many exercises for the whole body in a single machine. Some of the basic exercises you can do on a home gym machine include chest press, lat pull-down, lateral raises, bicep curl, tricep pushdowns, leg extensions, and much more.
Exercise Bike:
Exercise/Stationary bikes are typically used in a general health and fitness program and tend to be good for anyone who is hoping to simply improve their cardiovascular fitness level, build muscle strength, and see better results from their weight loss efforts. Also compared to some other types of cardio equipment, a stationary bicycle puts less stress on your joints and it still provides an excellent aerobic workout.

Foam Roller:
A foam roller is usually cylinder-shaped made of dense foam, which can be smooth or textured. solid or hollow. Foam rolling is a self-myofascial release (SMR) technique. It can help relieve muscle tightness, soreness, and inflammation, and increase your joint range of motion.
Foam rolling can be an effective tool to add to your warm-up or cooldown, before and after exercise. It eases muscle pain, increases range of motion, and relieves back pain if done properly. Learn the correct method of foam rolling and you will end up with a very addictive physiotherapy session, in a good sense of course.

This is my somewhat non-exhaustive list of 10 Home Gym Equipments You MUST Have!. It can be as spartan as a solo Yoga Mat and as elaborate as all of your friendly neighborhood Gym. Whatever the case may be, make sure to buy the equipment you are most likely to use and go on adding equipment as you progress. This will save you a lot of money and regret in the long run. But if you choose to invest in some of the equipment listed above, rest assured that you will be paid back in a way which will upgrade the one most important aspect of your life, your- Health!
