Most people (my younger self included) believe that being “healthy” is mostly about looking good, being stronger than other people, and sacrificing everything that is fun for the tenuous promise of old age.

It’s all about six-packs, gorgeous Instagram posts, and wading into our 90s with as few diseases as possible.

But this misses the point entirely.

Because what your health is, what it really is, is your ability to live your life to it’s full potential.

Amazing health is not the end goal. it’s a tool, an aid. Just like money.

The goal of money isn’t to have millions in the bank, it’s to live the lifestyle that only millions in the bank can offer.

The goal of amazing health shouldn’t be to have amazing health, it should be to have a lifestyle that is only possible with amazing health.

Prioritizing your health gives you freedom, energy, and options.

You’re able to work longer hours on projects that are meaningful to you.

Your social interactions are more energetic, present, and engaging. Because you’re more alive and energetic, people will respond to you more positively and you’ll make more friends and likely have more relationships. Speaking of…

Your relationship is more exciting and passionate. You not only have the desire for your partner, but you have the ability to perform when it matters and show up for your partner the way they want.

You feel mentally clearer and less anxious, capable of weathering the storms of life and staying positive. Making the right decisions at the right time. Instead of feeling foggy and fatigued, you’ll walk through life with a sense of calm and content.

You’re less likely to lose years of your life to depression or other mental illnesses

Your health = your aliveness = your quality of life.

The more healthy and alive you are, the better your life will be. PERIOD.

And when you really understand this, prioritizing your health is no longer a job, but a duty and responsibility to yourself.

Now,

As far as actually optimizing your health to achieve those levels of energy and aliveness, it’s actually pretty simple.

1. Make Logic Driven Decisions

Instead of jumping on every fad diet that comes out, figure out a practical and doable diet plan to tell you exactly what foods you should eat and which ones you shouldn’t.

Instead of dropping a bunch of money on supplements that you don’t need, identify your specific deficiencies, and address them strategically.

Instead of following a strength training program from some Youtube fitness enthusiast on the internet, get a personalized training schedule to tell you what type of training your body is specifically adapted for and requires.

Let logic and time-proven reasoning drive your decisions and your health will be much easier to manage.

2. Focus on the Basics

Sleep 8 hours a night (meaning 8 hours of SLEEP).

Drink a ton of water (1 liter a day)

Take it easy on the alcohol, stimulants, and drugs.

Move your body for at least 30 minutes a day (walk, play games outside, exercise, tennis, just move!)

Eat less sugar and more wholesome and unprocessed foods.

If you just do these few things, over a period of time, your health will improve exponentially.

3. Strive for Balance

Sometimes, the healthiest thing you can do is to do the unhealthy thing.

Having that drink of single malt with a friend over a great conversation.

Enjoying a helping (or two) of grandma’s famous sweet pudding.

Life is meant to be lived, not preserved. And health is just a tool.

It’s alright to not be 100% healthy all the time. The important thing is balance.

In Conclusion:

Health is irreplaceable.

Not only is it our duty to be healthy but to also enjoy it to it’s out most in a most balanced manner.

After all what use is a tool if you don’t use it!
